My views on Journalism students of Batch 2007

Yes, I was quoted by the Philippine Daily Inquirer last March 27 (Wednesday) regarding my views on the kind of students we have at the UP Department of Journalism. The article titled “Journalists in the making” was published on page C2 of the paper’s March 27 edition but the online version may be retrieved here.

All of the 11 interviewed UP Journalism students in the article are former students.  In fact , the author, Bianca Consunji, happened to be my student in not one but three courses.

Is this the reason she chose to interview me? I doubt it. I think it just so happened that I was the only one present at the department on a lazy Monday (March 25) afternoon at the time when she was there.

Please read the article and tell me what you think. Thanks!

  1. I think it just so happened that I was the only one present at the department on a lazy Monday (March 25) afternoon at the time when she was there.

Well not really, I asked Ate Raquel right away if you were in the department. Hehe. I figured you knew the people in the batch best because everyone took J199 under you; the other profs might not be as familiar with all the students :)

Reply: Hello. Thanks for the clarification. It’s a well-written article though I expected you to also include your batchmates who are affiliated with the Philippine Collegian. Incidentally, I just added your blog on my blogroll. By the way, could you please call or text me ASAP regarding your J 100 final paper? Thanks!

  2. Hi sir!

I just included the people who submitted their profiles (as it was difficult to scrounge up interviewees despite my repeated texts, emails, and hallway ambushing), so no one from the Collegian was included, save for Alanah’s contribution of her photos. She didn’t want to submit a profile because she lost her graduation photos, haha. But thank you so much :)

Sorry about the late paper, sir. I had to ask my groupmates to rewrite their portions, as one submitted only an outline and one was virtually unusable. Sorry for the hassle.
