i discovered your website about two years ago...Parang doon yata galing ang link sa Bulatlat. Di po ako maxadong sigurado. You featured your students' websites there--parang projects yata nila.

Magandang Arao! :)

Reply: Thank you for your kind words. I wish you all the best. Cheers!

Marocharim here. Glad to know that my entry made it to your top 20. Although I think my idiosyncrasy shows in that entry, in the sense that I still think that language is arbitrary.

Many thanks.

Reply: You’re welcome and I hope you’ll continue writing. I see a lot of potential.

Thank you for being a judge po!

"In the spirit of transparency, I should tell you that I did not look at the poll results while rating the 57 entries so that I can avoid being influenced, if at all, by the sentiments of the blogging community."

And thanks, too, for being so objective in your judging!

(To anyone picky about the number of "language": yes, that means Tagalog AND non-Tagalog languages collectively.)

Reply: You’re most welcome. To tell you the truth, even if I’m used to editing several articles on a weekly basis, I can’t say that it’s easy to read through the submitted entries. But I’m not complaining. I actually enjoyed it. Thanks for the kind words. Cheers!

if by enriching the "Filipino language" you mean converting non-Tagalogs into Tagalogs and marginalizing us non-Tagalogs, we won't be helping out. We've suffered long enough with Tagalog domination, punished for speaking our own languages and branded "regional" as if we're not part of this nation.

There is no Filipino language.

Reply: Filipino language refers to the lingua franca which is unfortunately not yet fully developed, no thanks to an educational system that uses English as medium of instruction and mainstream media that tend to frame English speakers as the intelligent and sensical ones. Even journalism in Filipino is associated with sensationalized reporting, the kind of daily fare we get from most tabloids (not to mention occassional headlines in even some of the top-selling broadsheets). Tagalog is just one of the languages from where the lingua franca should be derived. This would explain, for example, the orientation of the UP Diksiyonaryong Filipino which lists down words not only from Tagalog but other languages like Bikol and Kapampangan. Having said this, I agree that there is no fully developed Filipino language, at least for now. To quote from the UP Diksiyonaryong Filipino (which I sometimes use to write my column articles for Pinoy Weekly), “Konstitusyon ang nagtatakda sa Filipino bilang pambansang wika ng Filipinas. I hope this helps. I wish you all the best. Thanks for your comment.
