Concerned Ateneo, Miriam, PSBA, UP Diliman, Katipunan-QC constituents launch KKK movement today (March 13)

An ecumenical service, candle-lighting and human chain along Katipunan Avenue symbolize the launch of a new KKK in the wake of the Mamasapano incident last January 25.

The Katipunan para sa Katotohanan, Katarungan at Kapayapaan (KKK) is a broad alliance of various stakeholders from residential communities, schools, religious organizations, and transport groups in the Katipunan area of Quezon City. It is composed of more than 300 students, teachers, staff, and workers from Ateneo de Manila University, Miriam College (MC), University of the Philippines Diliman, and Philippine School of Business Administration, as well as residents of Bgy. Loyola Heights and Bgy. Matandang Balara, jeepney and tricycle owners and drivers, and nuns and priests from the Iglesia Filipina Independiente, Cenacle Sisters, Missionaries of the Infirmed, and the Redemptorist Church.

In a statement, the newly-formed KKK stressed that they will continue to struggle for justice. “Katarungan ang dapat kahantungan ng paghahanap ng katotohanan sa mga imbestigasyon. Mauuwi sa wala ang pagkamatay ng mgatauhan ng SAF, mga hukbo ng MILF, pati na rin ang mga walang malay na sibilyan, kung hindi mapapanagot ang mga utak sa likod ng operasyon.”

Aside from demanding truth, accountability and justice, the group also called for an end to all-out war. “Nakapanlulumong malaman na hindi bababa sa pitumpung libo na ang bilang ng mga nagsilikas, mula sa labing-isang bayan sa Maguindanao. Libu-libong buhay na ang nawala sa kasaysayan ng kaguluhan sa Mindanao. Hindi ito masosolusyunan ng dagdag pang labanan.”

Signatories of the statement include the Ugnayan ng mga Makabayang Guro sa Ateneo (UMAGA), Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng Miriam College, Office of the Student Regent UP System, Youth Act Now-UP Diliman, Rise for Education-UP Diliman, Student Alliance for the Advancement of Democratic Rights in UP (STAND UP), UP Kilos Na Multisectoral Alliance, All UP Academic Employees Union, All UP Workers Union, Alliance of Contractual Employees UP (ACE UP), Congress of Teachers for Nationalism and Democracy UP Diliman (CONTEND UP), Samahan ng mga Manininda sa UP Campus, Student Christian Movement, College Editors Guild of the Philippines, Fr. Dionito Cabillas of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente Church (Escaler St.) and Beda Torrecampo of Bgy. Matandang Balara.

There will be an ecumenical service at the Environment Science Institute, Miriam College (MC) at 5:30 p.m. The delegates will then immediately proceed to Gate 1 of MC where they will hold a candle-lighting ceremony and form a “human chain” along Katipunan Avenue.

Interviews and photo opportunities are available. Media coverage is requested.
