Media 120 WZZ students: Your graded final papers are still with me as of this writing. I can only send them via postal mail on April 8 (Wednesday) as I have a speaking engagement in Jakarta early next week. Kung sakaling may kulang pa kayong proyekto, ipadala n’yo na lang sa email at huwag kalimutang gumamit ng PDF na format. Huwag n’yong kalimutan ang deadline ng inyong web advertisement at website.

Kung estudyante naman kita sa J 117 WUV (Online Journalism), siguraduhin n’yong maayos ang inyong website na magsisilbing pinal na eksaminasyon. Hindi ko na kailangan pang ulitin ang mangyayari kapag may nakitang dead link sa inyong website.

Sa mga gradwadong estudyante naman ng Media 230 WZZ (Media Ethics), pagbutihin ninyo ang inyong pananaliksik dahil may malaking bahagdan ito ng inyong pinal na grado. Gaya ng nabanggit ko sa klase, posibleng irekomenda ko ang publikasyon ng mahuhusay na papel sa Philippine Journalism Review, bagama’t susunod pa rin ito sa proseso ng double-blind review.

Gusto ko namang kunin ang pagkakataong ito para batiin ang mga estudyante ng J 200-1 (Thesis) sa maaga nilang pagpasa ng pinal na bersyon ng kanilang tesis nang hindi isinasakripisyo ang kalidad ng pananaliksik.

If you’ve attended our class last week, you already know the “juicy details,” particularly  where, why and with whom I’m going. You are now free to tell your classmates who were absent, as well as others who are interested to know.

As far as our class is concerned, this simply means that you have to religiously attend the remaining meetings in February. You already know the papers, projects and other requirements and their respective deadlines, so please submit them on time.

If you’re my thesis advisee (undergraduate or graduate level), please see me in the next few days so that we can evaluate the status of your thesis and make adjustments (if any) to your proposal or actual defense (for graduate students).

With regard to our schedule in March, we have no choice but to conduct our consultations via email or YM (unless of course you can afford the plane fare to visit me personally).

You should know that I will be out of the country twice (in July and August) and I have several speaking engagements in the coming weeks, some of them out-of-town. Since I cannot easily adjust my already full schedule in the next few months, please observe the deadlines.

• J 117 (Online Journalism): Members of Group 4 will present their report. The resource links section on UP Charter Change should also be uploaded to your website before the start of our class.
• J 122 (Publication Design and Layout): It will be the turn of Groups 3 and 4 to report. After the two reports, you will receive instructions pertaining to the submission of a newspaper page, newsletter and web advertisement. The first two requirements are due on February 28, the last on March 6. We will also discuss the mechanics for the finalization of your website which serves as your final exam.

February 22 (Friday)

• J 109 (Writing for Popular Audiences): Kindly submit your second article. Please read the handout I gave you today (February 15) as we will use it as main reference in our discussion. We will also critique your first article.

Message to my thesis students

• J 200 (Thesis): As of today, only one student has submitted an acceptable first draft which practically assures her of a passing grade (or an INC [Incomplete] at worst). If you were to refer to your schedule, you should have submitted by this time your second draft. While I appreciate that some of you periodically update me on the status of your theses, I should remind you that failure to submit an acceptable first draft before the end of the classes this semester means a grade of 5.0 (Failure).
