UP Diliman professors oppose DAP in presscon tomorrow

The University Council (UC) of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman issued a statement on July 7 (Monday) calling upon the Aquino administration to be accountable and transparent “in light of the Supreme Court (SC) ruling on the partial unconstitutionality of the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) on July 1, 2014.” The UC also called on the public “to remain vigilant and…work together to ensure that a thorough investigation on the use of public funds is conducted.”

In relation to this, concerned faculty members of UP Diliman will hold a press conference on July 8 (Tuesday), 10 a.m. at the Vinzons Hall lobby, UP Diliman, Quezon City not only to highlight the UC position but also to expose the complicity of President Noynoy Aquino on the issue.

The theme for the press conference is “Matuwid na Daan Patungong Katiwalian.”

In a statement, the UP Faculty Against the Congressional and Presidential Pork Barrel (UP FacPork) stressed: “While the plea of `good faith’ has been repeatedly invoked to try and sugarcoat the complicity of BS Aquino in the DAP, hard facts recall that in 2009, Aquino himself had filed Senate Bill No. 3121, `The Budget Impoundment Control Act,’ which sought to control presidential prerogative over the national budget and `limit executive influence over specific appropriations in the General Appropriations Act.'”

At the press conference, the UP faculty members will once again wear the Sablay (UP’s official academic costume) to highlight the need to uphold honor and excellence in governance.

Other photo opportunities and interviews will also be available.

Media coverage is requested.
