Please read our election monitoring reports

Since the start of the senatorial campaign in February, 25 students and two faculty members (i.e., Prof. Luis Teodoro and yours truly) of the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication (UP CMC) have helped in the monitoring of senatorial and party-list election reports in selected media organizations.

This project was initiated by the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) which also had a media monitoring of the presidential election in 2004.

We have already written three reports which may be retrieved from the CMFR website. I just learned a few minutes ago that the midterm consolidated report covering the period February 13 to March 30 has also been uploaded.

Just so you know, I wrote the Time Allotment Analysis section of the three reports and the midterm consolidated one. This task required the processing of 204 sets of time-keeping forms for the February 13 to March 30 episodes of six monitored television programs — TV Patrol (ABS-CBN), Bandila (ABS-CBN), 24 Oras (GMA), Saksi (GMA), Sentro (ABC) and Teledyaryo (NBN). Each report consisted of a narrative, three tables and six graphs.

We are now in the process of writing the fourth media monitoring report. I hope that you will take time to read the reports we have finished so far. If you’re concerned about the kind of media that we have right now as well as the conduct of the election campaign, the findings of our reports might interest you.
