Concerned UP profs dismiss Aquino as `rotten MRT driver’ of his so-called `tuwid na daan’
As President Noynoy Aquino delivers his last State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 28, concerned faculty members of the University of the Philippines (UP) will hold a forum and press conference tomorrow (July 15), 9:30 a.m. at the auditorium of the College of Mass Communication (CMC) Plaridel Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon City.
It may be recalled that this activity, originally scheduled for July 8, had to be postponed due to the inclement weather in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Aside from UP professors, the speakers of the forum and press conference are Celia Veloso (mother of OFW Mary Jane), Dodong Tubien (spokesperson of Tanggulan Ugnayan Dulugang Lakas ng Anakpawis sa Tanduay Distillers, Inc.), Raymond Basilio (Save Our Schools Network) and Eriberto Peña (president of Alyansa ng Magbubukid sa Bulacan-San Jose Del Monte). Xandra Bisenio of IBON Foundation will give an overview of the Philippine economic and political situation.
They will dramatize the failure of Aquino to promote and uphold the welfare of the disadvantaged and disempowered by portraying him as a driver of a rotten MRT, characterized by stations like Pork Barrel Station, K-12 Station and EDCA Station. The first pertains to issues of unabated corruption; the second, poor quality of education; and the third, subservience to foreign dictates.
“(W)e cannot allow our children to inherit a society that has been ravaged by the corrupt and anti-people policies of the lame duck government of Pres. Aquino,” the Congress of Teachers and Educators for Nationalism and Democracy (CONTEND) stressed in a statement.
CONTEND said that the Aquino administration’s “incurable ineptitude” has been evident since Day 1 of the PNoy presidency, “when 8 hostages were killed during the tragic Rizal Park hostage-taking incident on August 23, 2010.”
Media coverage is requested. Interviews and photo opportunities are available, particularly the politicized MRT stations and the depiction of PNoy as a “rotten driver” of the “tuwid na daan.”
