Media advisory on UP protest vs Tubbataha Reef damage, VFA on January 30

WHAT: Mass action against Tubbataha Reef damage, Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA)

WHO: UP Alliance to Save the Tubbataha, Junk VFA (a newly formed organization of concerned UP Diliman students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni and friends)

WHEN: January 30 (Wednesday), 5:00 p.m.

WHERE: AS steps, Palma Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon City

WHY: To quote from the alliance’s statement: “(C)oncerned members of the UP Diliman community strongly call on the Aquino administration to make the US Navy accountable for the damage to the Tubbataha Reef and to assert the Philippines’ territorial integrity and national sovereignty…We renew our call to abrogate the Visiting Forces Agreement.   1. How come no protest was heard when a Chinese vessel also ran aground in Tubbataha Reef? Unlike the US minesweeper, those Chinese don’t have an iota of excuse to be in our waters.
