Six MassComm profs recognized as UP Artists (2012-2014)

Six faculty members of the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication (UP CMC) have been recognized as UP Artists.

The six awardees are Grace Javier Alfonso, Danilo Arao, Fernando Austria Jr., Yason Banal, Sari Raissa Lluch Dalena and Roland Tolentino.

Banal, Dalena and Tolentino are conferred the title UP Artist II; and Alfonso, Arao and Austria, UP Artist I. The title is effective from 2012 to 2014.

Four of the awardees are from the UP Film Institute (Alfonso, Banal, Dalena and Tolentino) while Austria and Arao are from the Department of Broadcast Communication and Department of Journalism, respectively.

The awarding ceremony is on August 7, 3 p.m. at Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

The Board of Regents (BOR), the highest policy-making body at UP, approved last July 29 the awarding of the 2012 Arts Productivity System (APS) to 26 UP faculty members. Twenty-four of them are from UP Diliman (including the six from UP CMC); and one each from UP Los Baños and UP Mindanao.

Established by the BOR in December 2008, the APS aims to encourage “outstanding productivity in the creative arts or in arts scholarship for national development.”

Aside from the title, the APS carries monetary awards of P120,000 (UP Artist I), P144,000 (UP Artist II) and P180,000 (UP Artist III) every year.
